Accelerating AI Adoption With GitHub Copilot.

A global investment management firm partnered with InfoMagnus and GitHub to evaluate GitHub Copilot through a structured Proof of Concept (PoC) program. The engagement provided both strategic and technical guidance, helping the organization explore Copilot’s practical value in real-world workflows. Through planning sessions, enablement training, webinars, and ongoing office hours, the program supported the development of internal Copilot champions and laid the groundwork for broader adoption across engineering teams.

Understanding the Opportunity for AI-Enhanced Development.

Following an unsuccessful first attempt at an internal PoC, the firm sought expert guidance to understand how GitHub Copilot could enhance developer productivity, improve testing efficiency, and support coding best practices within the firm’s established workflows. Key objectives included building foundational knowledge and confidence across teams, exploring meaningful use cases and real-world integration strategies, identifying technical and strategic blockers, and establishing a cross-functional group of Copilot champions to lead post-PoC initiatives.

Tailored Copilot Enablement Aligned to Engineering Workflows.

The PoC was delivered over several weeks through a phased approach combining education, exploration, and strategic alignment.

Phase 1: Enablement & Planning.

The program began with foundational training and strategic planning sessions to align on success criteria, use cases, and adoption goals. A Copilot champion group was established early to drive engagement and feedback loops across teams.

Phase 2: Deep Dives & Workflow Integration.

Weekly enablement enabled teams to explore Copilot through live technical Q&A and targeted discussions. Deep-dive sessions covered prompt engineering and workflow customization, Copilot support for testing workflows, model selection guidance, best practices and troubleshooting, and integration strategies with the MCP server. Strategic sessions also addressed model access governance and Copilot’s role in the firm’s long-term development strategy.

Key Benefits.

  • Internal champions were enabled and equipped to advocate and support Copilot usage.
  • High-impact use cases were identified, particularly in testing and inline coding guidance.
  • Teams received targeted guidance on model selection, prompt strategies, and workflow alignment.
  • Strategic alignment was established for scaling Copilot use in accordance with internal policies and compliance frameworks.

Future Outlook.

To sustain the momentum and scale GitHub Copilot effectively, the organization is encouraged to complete its final strategic planning session and consider showcasing success stories highlighting the value of advanced models. Longer-term efforts include developing a customized internal onboarding playbook, launching an advanced Copilot champion program, and establishing governance and usage policies to ensure consistent, secure adoption. True next steps are under review internally to ensure security and legal compliance is met, but the conversation continues on how to enable next steps.
