InfoMagnus is guiding a global technology research and advisory firm through a phased migration of 11,500+ repositories from BitBucket to GitHub Enterprise Cloud.
Global technology research and advisory firm, a longtime BitBucket customer, was ready to upgrade its DevOps toolchain, beginning with a migration to GitHub Enterprise Cloud. With over 11,000 repositories and multiple companywide initiatives underway, they needed expert support to ensure a smooth transition. InfoMagnus accelerated the large-scale migration and developed a strategic plan to align with the clients needs.
In collaboration with the their team, a phased migration strategy was selected to accelerate and drive adoption success.
Phasing a large migration like this allowed not only smaller migration waves and less impact to teams, but it also broke down the project budget and timeline. Phase 1 — nearly 2,500 repositories — started in late November and was selected using a central business unit to demonstrate the migration strategy to other teams and to allocate focused effort in defining the remaining phases.
At the end of Phase 1, InfoMagnus will present the client with a formal plan and cost estimate for migrating the remaining 9,000 repositories. The plan will include detailed timelines for each organization, ensuring a structured approach that minimizes disruption and streamlines execution.
The global technology research and advisory firm has also shown interest in adopting GitHub Copilot and GitHub Actions to replace Jenkins CI/CD pipelines. As the engagement continues, InfoMagnus will provide strategic recommendations and develop implementation plans to help the client achieve its broader objectives.
